| ASSOCIATION OF IWO-JIMA was established in June,1953,advocated by both U.S. and Japanese alike (A) : A-1) Veterans of Iwo-Jima and of battle area near-by Iwo-Jima, and A-2) Families of those who did not return from the war of Iwo-Jima and from the battle fields of islands, air and sea, adjacent to Iwo-Jima, and A-3) Pre-war Inhabitants of Iwo-Jima and its neighboring islands, who were evacuated from their homes to other islands of Japan prior to the battle there, |
| With the common cause to (B) : B-1) Console the souls of the dead who gave their lives to their home countries, Regardless to which side they fought for, and also regardless to the cause of the war, or to the way the war was started, and B-2) Soothe the un-finishing deep sorrows of those who were left behind at home, majority of whom never received any mementos or whatsoever to remember the dead member of their families, |
| And to proceed with the following activities (C) : C-1) To search and recover the remains of corpses of the dead, still lying underground, in the caves, tunnels, trenches etc... C-2) To try to identify names of corpses of the dead thus found, and C-3) If identified, to return them to their families,and C-4) To conduct Annual Joint Anniversary Ceremony of Consolation at Iwo-Jima, C-5) To be attended by both U.S. and Japanese members of Association |
| In this connection, we need to DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FACT that (D) : D-1) Underneath the battle grounds of Iwo-Jima,located at 1,250 kilometers (781 miles) south from Tokyo toward Pacific Ocean,belonging to Tokyo Metropolitan City, Ogasawara Village, More than 12,000 corpses of dead warriors of both sides of war are still lying there. D-2) In the meantime, THANKS TO THE GOODWILL OF MANY U.S. VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES, Lots of ex-belongings of dead Japanese soldiers have been, and are still returned To Japanese families even today, After elapsing more than fifty-five (55) years since the end of the battle there. D-3) NOT WITHSTANDING THE ABOVE RETURNS OF SEVERAL EX-BELONGINGS, THEIR CORPSES ARE STILL LYING underneath the ground of Iwo-Jima, unsearched. |
| WE ARE FIRMLY DETERMINED, THEREFORE, (E) : E-1) To continue our efforts and activities,AS LONG AS WE SENSE THE LONGING CRIES OF OUR BROTHER-AT-ARMS FOR HOME, who died on the volcano-heated Iwo-Jima, E-2) Until the day when all the remaining corpses of the warriors and their belongings be brought home successfully, and E-3) To keep on appealing that as many citizens of the world as possible will come to know and to agree with the spirit of our Association and its activities, generation after generation, Toward realization of a TRULY PEACEFUL WORLD WITHOUT A WAR. |
